Although full mouth reconstruction sounds painful, Dr. Fernandez and our team will do our best to make your treatment as comfortable and painless as possible. Invasive procedures are performed under local anesthesia to minimize discomfort. We also offer sedation options to keep you calm and relaxed in the dental chair. Some procedures may result in pain, discomfort, or soreness during recovery. These symptoms can be relieved with OTC or prescribed pain medication.
Here are some common dental restoration procedures used in full mouth reconstruction and what you can expect from each:
Decay will be treated with composite resin fillings. Dr. Fernandez will numb your mouth, remove the decay, and fill your tooth to protect it from future infection. Most cavity treatments are completed in one dental visit. Recovery is generally quick and easy.
Pulpal tooth infections are treated with root canal therapy. Treatment entails removing the diseased pulp, cleansing your tooth, and sealing it with a filling. Following the procedure, a crown will be placed on your tooth to restore its function. Root canals are done under local anesthetic. Any soreness or tenderness you feel after treatment can be relieved with OTC pain medication.
Crowns repair fractured and broken teeth by restoring their compromised structure. Crowning a damaged tooth relieves pain, keeps it intact, and restores its usefulness for the future. Dental crown recovery typically takes a few days. Saltwater rinses can help reduce sensitivity and swelling of the gum tissue.
If a tooth has suffered irreparable damage, it must be removed to preserve the integrity of your smile. Although the extraction process is pretty simple, we offer bone grafts in the area of extraction to prevent bone loss. Also, we use collagen fibers in every patient after extraction to help with bone formation and control bleeding, then use sutures for better and faster healing. Full recovery can take up to a week. In cases where we need to remove bone, patients will be covered with antibiotics and strong pain medication. Post-extraction pain, soreness, and inflammation can be relieved with warm saltwater rinses, cold compresses on your cheek, and OTC pain pills.
Dental implants require a complete medical history review to ensure the patient is not medically compromised and does not have contraindications to have dental implant surgery. CT scan is done to evaluate bone quality and quantity. Then, if a patient qualifies for implants, we proceed.
Implants replace missing teeth, which can take six months or longer. Dr. Fernandez places the implant in your jawbone surgically, then waits for it to fuse with your bone tissue before topping it with a replacement tooth or teeth. Recovery from surgery generally takes a few days, after which you can resume your usual schedule.
