What is considered general dentistry?

At Highland Dental Clinic, we believe that family dental care needs to be a priority for patients of all ages. Children and adults who visit with our team in South Lakeland, Florida, will get the best oral health and wellness care. Dr. Blanca Fernandez and her team are delighted to provide general dentistry services to cater to the oral health needs of all members of your household.

What is general dentistry?

Dr. Fernandez describes general dentistry as the regular procedures done to assist patients in achieving and maintaining good oral health and wellness. Some of the more common services and procedures include:

  • Dental evaluations. Per recommendations of the American Dental Association, Dr. Fernandez and her team recommend that patients visit their dentist at least every six months for an assessment. During an evaluation, our team will look for signs of cancer, disease, or tooth decay to ensure early intervention to maintain a healthy smile.
  • Dental cleanings. Also referred to as prophylaxis or a prophy, dental cleanings are performed regularly to remove plaque, tartar, and calculus from the surfaces of the teeth and gums. This will reduce one’s risk of periodontal disease and tooth decay.
  • Dental fillings. If tooth decay develops, fillings are highly recommended to seal the tooth and keep the decay from becoming larger and deeper. This is often performed using composite resin, a tooth-colored material that blends in with the smile for an aesthetic finished look!
  • Dental crowns. If a tooth has been damaged or compromised from trauma or decay, it may require the fabrication and placement of a dental crown. These are porcelain “caps” designed to cover the exposed portion of a tooth to protect and strengthen it. Dental crowns are customized to the patient’s smile to ensure a beautiful, finished look!
