Porcelain Veneers
When you see a smile that makes you stop in your tracks, chances are you’re looking at porcelain veneers. Nothing surpasses the beauty and natural luminosity as veneers. You can’t help but notice it, and you start to make assumptions about the person don’t you? They look attractive, happy, fun to be with, young. You wish you could look like that and be like that. You can, you know. It’s easier than you think!
Veneers are crafted in a tone and translucency that either matches your teeth or whitens and improves the look of your teeth. They will not stain and are incredibly resilient and non-abrasive to opposing teeth. A porcelain dental veneer is a thin wafer of porcelain that is permanently cemented to your prepared tooth.
Veneers can transform a person with a smile that is worthy of any movie star! Veneers can change your look completely by straightening, lengthening, and whitening teeth, providing you with a beautiful smile and more comfortable bite position. A veneer preserves your natural tooth structure, thus keeping the tooth very strong and durable. We always want to preserve your own tooth as much as we can and veneers help make this possible.
What’s the value of changing your life in such a dramatic and positive way? We think it’s priceless. Don’t wait another day to get started!
Minimal Prep Veneers
Standard porcelain veneers do require a measure of tooth preparation to accommodate the veneers. This involves removing some of your own tooth enamel.
For some people, this may be a more adjustments to their own teeth than they’re comfortable with. For these patients, traditional porcelain veneers may not be the best choice because they do require the removal of enamel. But they don’t have to sacrifice the beautiful color, symmetry, and natural luminosity of veneers. They can still experience the total transformation that regular veneers can create in a person’s life. Some people have even described it as liberating, as if they’ve been set free to be who they really are, and minimal-prep veneers
Luckily, dental researchers are continually innovating the art and science of aesthetic dentistry, and advancing the science of dental technology. The dental industry has improved the ceramic materials for veneers and the latest bonding techniques mean that dentists and patients can now achieve esthetically superior porcelain veneers with less preparation, tooth loss and potential discomfort. An alternative to traditional veneers is called minimal-prep veneers. They look the same as traditional veneers, but require less tooth preparation, enamel reduction, and potentially less discomfort.
Dr. Fernandez will explain the differences between full- and minimal-prep veneers to help you decide which is the best method for you.
Full Mouth Restoration
Sometimes people have severely damaged smiles due to injury, disease, neglect, or heredity. They may have severe gum disease, where the gums are severely inflamed or infected, and teeth may be loose or even missing. They may have been using poorly fitting dentures that don’t stimulate the gums and jawbone are causing premature wrinkling or causing your face to sag.
These patients are the most challenging and the most rewarding for us to work with. To help transform someone’s life through our care is the reason we are here. Dr. Fernandez is highly skilled in cosmetic and restorative therapies to restore a smile to peak health and appearance. A full-mouth rejuvenation might include multiple types of restorations, implants, veneers, dentures, or anything else we have in our comprehensive list of services. If your dental problems also have caused jaw pain, Dr. Fernandez can help relieve your discomfort with gentle treatments or perhaps a nightguard to help reduce teeth grinding. Throughout your treatment, we are here to support and encourage you. Every step of our processes will be thoroughly explained to you during the review of your treatment plan and at each step of the way.
A full-mouth restoration is one of the most rewarding services we perform. It can be life changing for us as well as our patient. Dr. Fernandez has devoted herself to training in a wide range of dental restoration and cosmetic services so as many of your treatments can be performed in one place as possible.
Crown Lengthening / Gum Recontouring
Sometimes your gums may cover the teeth so much that your smile is “gummy” or it looks like you have tiny teeth. Or if there is evidence of periodontal disease, Dr. Fernandez may want to expose more of the tooth below the gum to remove plaque or calculus (hardened plaque) or to apply periodontal treatments below the gum.
Our office uses a soft tissue laser to smooth and recontour the appearance of gum lines or improve the health and appearance of your teeth. This simple and effective treatment can change a gummy smile to a great one! Or, it can help Dr. Fernandez treat a decayed tooth or gum disease below the gum line. In some cases, it may be necessary to perform a frenectomy, where the laser is applied to the tissue between the upper or lower teeth and the lips. There’s no bleeding with the soft-tissue laser, and very little discomfort if any.
The soft-tissue laser works with without causing bleeding or severe pain. It’s just one technique in the processes Dr. Fernandez uses to treat or enhance her patients’ smiles. We hope as you get used to comfortable, noninvasive treatments, you’ll make it a habit to call us to maintain your dental health or to treat any problems quickly.
Composite Bonding, Inlays / Onlays
Minor tooth problems like chips, gaps, or small cavities can be improved by using tooth-colored composite bonding material. Unlike veneers, bonding is only applied to a small portion of the tooth, to reshape the tooth’s appearance or cover up stains or cracks. It can even be formed to fill in a chipped tooth. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, these changes made with composite bonding are imperceptible. It’s a convenient, affordable treatment that dramatically improves the smiles of Dr. Fernandez’ patients.
It takes years of training, an artist’s eye, and careful attention to detail to make the dental bonding completely indistinguishable from a natural tooth. The bonding material is applied to one very thin layer at a time, almost like the underpainting technique used by the Old Masters of the Renaissance to produce their paintings.
When your decayed tooth needs more than a filling but less than a crown to restore it, Dr. Fernandez will use a porcelain inlay or an onlay to bring your tooth back to a healthy state and appearance. Inlays are used when the decay is within the indented top surface (cusp) of a tooth, and an onlay is used when the cavity extends beyond one or more cusps.
Tooth Recontouring
Tooth recontouring is another technique that can add to the aesthetics of your smile. The philosophy “less is more” is especially appropriate when we’re talking about this technique. Tooth recontouring is not intended for large imperfections or significant tooth misalignment.
Tooth recontouring is intended for small overlaps, misalignments, differences in tooth sizes and other small changes that can be made by removing tiny, micro-thin slices of tooth enamel, one at a time.. It requires painstaking attention to detail and a commitment to perfection, carefully evaluating the whole picture after every change, making sure that your tooth is exactly right, not too much or too little enamel removed.
These tiny changes will likely be imperceptible to most people. Maybe they’ll ask if you cut your hair or even lost weight! But you’ll just smile at them confidently! You won’t believe the difference just a small change in your teeth can make!
Smile Whitening
Porous tooth enamel causes teeth to darken over time, as teeth absorb stains from the food we eat. We help patients whiten their teeth by several shades in just a single trip to our office, with same-day teeth whitening. Results are dramatic, and perfect for looking your best. Our whitening product naturally lift stains by an accelerated oxidation process, making the enamel look years younger, and naturally whiter.
Dr. Fernandez can help you determine if your teeth and gums are healthy and good candidates for teeth whitening and which whitening process will give you even, natural-looking results.
Treatment takes as little as 30 minutes. The results are instant and no follow-up visit is required. There is little to no tooth sensitivity after treatment. Dr. Fernandez can also give you whitening trays to take home and complete when it’s convenient for you.
